Cheryl Machat Dorskind, a seasoned professional photographer, divides her time as a portrait photographer and fine art visual artist. Her signature style handpainted photography, “photopaintings,” and her natural light, lifestyle and environmental portraiture are sought by clients worldwide.
I originally coined the phrase photopaintings for their marriage of my passions, photography and painting. Handpainting or hand tinting is a technique as old as photography itself, one I rediscovered back in the 1980s and helped bring back to the spotlight with my best selling book, "The Art of Handpainting Photographs." Each photopainting is part of a limited edition of 25. They are each handpainted on gelatin silver photographic paper. I then apply washes of oil paints and layer artist materials.
